Sustainable 100% hemp composite is used in place of the industry standard glass composite in every Squampton Snowskate. Hemp composites are environmentally superior to glass composites as hemp fiber production results in lower environmental impacts compared to glass fiber production, hemp composites have higher fiber content for equal performance, which reduces the amount of more polluting base polymers, hemp composites weigh less than equivalent glass composites, and unlike glass fiber, hemp fibre can be incinerated at the end of intended use which leads to positive carbon credits and lower global warming effects.

In order to help reduce the dependence on dwindling timber resources, Squampton Snowskates cores are made from Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens), sustainably harvested at maturity between 5 1/2 to 6 years for maximum hardness and stability, resulting in a product that is 25% harder than oak and 12% harder than canadian maple. To ensure the performance and quality demanded of our snowskates, our bamboo cores are professionally tested for hardness, adhesive formaldehyde levels, moisture content, tensile strength, compression strength, flexural strength, and deflection.

By replacing petroleum based epoxy with renewable plant-based epoxy, Squampton Snowskates minimizes the carbon footprint and overall impact on the environment as much as possible. In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from production of our resins by 50% over conventional petroleum based epoxies, our bio-resin is made using green chemistry techniques that produce less harmful byproducts, and require less energy. The raw materials that go into our resins are waste products or co-products of other industrially important processes, and do not displace food-based agriculture or compete with food sources.
